SOMERSET, Pa. (AP) - Police were searching for a western Pennsylvania burglary suspect who stabbed a tiny dog that had to be euthanized as a result.

Forty-three-year-old Tina McMillan tells Somerset police her 15-year-old Pomeranian, “Deans,” was in a pool of blood when she returned from work to find her home burglarized late Tuesday afternoon.

Police say the burglar took a silver necklace and used a kitchen knife to stab the dog in the back, neck and head. The animal was euthanized Wednesday because its head injury was so severe.

Police found a bucket beneath an open kitchen window, which is where they believe the burglary got into the house.

Police Chief Randy Cox says the attack on the dog was “cowardly” and “disgusting” and “is probably extra motivation for those working the case.”
