PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - Authorities say the teenager charged with attempted murder in a shooting near Portland’s Cinco De Mayo festival handed the gun to the alleged shooter.

Prosecutor Glen Banfield said in court documents that the victim, Robert Beckles, was fighting with 20-year-old Bruce Holdman and the 17-year-old before the Tuesday afternoon shooting. Beckles lost the fight and started to walk away.

Witnesses told officers they heard Holdman tell the teenager to “hand me the stuff,” and then saw the teen hand him a gun. An off-duty reserve officer was among those who witnessed Beckles get shot in the back.

Beckles was hospitalized with injuries not considered life-threatening.

Holdman and the teen are both charged with attempted murder, assault and unlawful use of a weapon.
