PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Providence police have identified a man who managed to drive himself to a hospital after being shot in the head in a drive-by shooting.

Police told The Providence Journal (https://bit.ly/1dQwNTl ) that 20-year-old Elias Medina was shot at about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday while driving in the area of Prairie Avenue and Oxford Street. A passenger in Medina’s car was not harmed.

Medina told police someone in another car opened fire at him. He remained conscious after being shot in the head and drove himself to Rhode Island Hospital. He is expected to recover.

Police believe Medina was targeted by the shooter, but declined to elaborate. No arrests have been announced.

Medina is currently on probation in connection with a guilty plea to conspiracy last September related to an armed home invasion.
