WALTERBORO, S.C. (AP) - The State Law Enforcement Division is investigating a shooting in which a law officer wounded a suspect following a bank robbery in Colleton County.

Walterboro police tell area media outlets that a woman entered the First Federal Bank on Wednesday afternoon brandishing a gun and demanding money.

A Colleton County deputy pulled over a car matching that of the suspects a short while later and authorities say the woman in the car tried to run over the deputy.

The officer then fired his gun, wounding the woman in the hand.

Neither the officer’s name nor the name of the woman arrested were immediately released. SLED is investigating the shooting and police are investigating the robbery.

It is the 16th shooting involving a law officer in South Carolina this year.
