MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Shelby County health officials, government leaders and community members are scheduled to attend an infant mortality summit in Memphis.

The Infant Mortality Reduction Summit is set for Thursday morning.

Efforts to reduce the infant mortality rate have been relatively successful in recent years in Memphis and Shelby County. The county reported a historic low of 9.2 deaths per 1,000 live births in 2013.

Participants will inform the community of progress made in reducing infant mortality and educate attendees on how economic disparities and social and health inequities contribute to and complicate infant mortality.
