ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (AP) - The head of Albemarle County Public Schools has been recognized as the top superintendent in the state.

The Daily Progress reports (https://bit.ly/1csyeHb ) Albemarle Superintendent Pam Moran was named the top administrator in Virginia Wednesday by the Virginia Association of School Superintendents.

The organization says Moran held a chief role in increasing graduation rates, enrollment in advanced placement courses and SAT scores among low-income students.

Moran, who has held her role since 2006, oversees a division of more than 13,600 students and 26 schools.

She was picked from among 133 superintendents in the state.

Moran will be eligible to win the National Superintendent of the Year award next year in Arizona.
