KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A commercial rig crashed into a south Knoxville landmark, toppling a marble column over 100 years old.

The Knoxville News Sentinel (https://bit.ly/1culmk7 ) reports the 18-wheeler smashed into the 14-foot column Thursday morning near the Island Home Park neighborhood. Resident Nancy Campbell says the columns on both sides of the street were constructed in 1909 and greet people into the neighborhood,

Island Home Park Neighborhood Association president Jim Staub says Island Home Avenue closed three weeks ago for utility relocation work and trucks illegally travel down Hillwood Drive to access the avenue, despite the “No Trucks” signs along the road.
