SEAT PLEASANT, Md. (AP) - A Maryland boy critically injured last week in an accidental stabbing celebrated his eighth birthday with the firefighters and medics who saved his life.

WRC-TV (https://bit.ly/1FSWo95 ) reports Dah’mari Jenkins and a cousin were playing in Seat Pleasant Friday when the 8-year-old cousin accidentally stabbed Jenkins with a scalpel they found. The wound severed Jenkins’ femoral artery, causing massive bleeding.

Emergency responders treated Jenkins for hemorrhagic shock and rushed him to a hospital. Jenkins was released Sunday.

When medics followed up on the boy’s condition, Jenkins asked if he could spend his birthday with his rescuers.

Jenkins celebrated his birthday at the Capitol Heights Fire Station Thursday. Along with cake and presents, the station held a ceremony for Jenkins and all the firefighters, police officers and medics who cared for him.
