NEWARK, Ohio (AP) - A former booster club treasurer accused of stealing about $67,000 meant for a central Ohio high school band has been sentenced to 60 days in jail.

Prosecutors say 51-year-old Ernest Bowers of Pataskala pleaded no contest to grand theft Friday in Licking County court.

His attorney says Bowers always intended to pay back what he took from the Watkins Memorial High School boosters.

He paid more than half of the $25,000 in restitution that was ordered, and he must complete 200 hours of community service.

Investigators say the money was taken over several years and used for expenses such as personal trips, gas, food, cellphones and relatives’ education costs.
