AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - The family of a 16-year-old Whitefield boy who died when the all-terrain vehicle he was operating crashed with a car driven by a teenage girl has filed a lawsuit against the girl’s mother.

The Kennebec Journal (https://bit.ly/1RjSuKV ) reports that Stacy Savage filed her suit in Kennebec County Superior Court as personal representative of the estate of Ryan Wayne Mullens.

The suit names Karen Crommett, mother of the 16-year-old driver, as the defendant.

Police say Mullens’ ATV crossed paths with the vehicle driven by the teen on Howe Road last June. Mullens, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown off the ATV as it rolled over. He died at the hospital.

Crommett’s attorney, Jessica Adler Coro, denies the complaint’s claims of negligence and is asking for a dismissal.
