FLORENCE, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say Florence man is accused of breaking into classrooms and stealing cash and credit cards at two San Tan Valley elementary schools.

Pinal County Sheriff’s officials say 42-year-old Michael Shane Hererra is a former school district employee.

They say Hererra allegedly stole from unattended teachers’ purses at San Tan Heights Elementary School and Copper Basin K-8 School.

Sheriff’s officials say Hererra used his knowledge as an ex-district employee to get past security protocol and into the schools.

He was captured on video at multiple stores in Pinal and Maricopa counties using the stolen credit cards to purchase items.

Sheriff’s officials say Hererra is being held on suspicion of burglary, theft, identity theft and multiple charges of using a stolen credit card.

It’s unclear if he has an attorney yet.
