WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) - An Atlanta-based development group has announced plans to build in an area near BB&T; Ballpark in Winston-Salem with a hotel, almost 600 luxury apartments and 300,000 square feet of retail space.

The Winston-Salem Journal (https://bit.ly/1AJUodn ) reports Brand Properties Real Estate Investment Group announced Thursday it would create Brookstown District at BB&T; Ballpark, a development encompassing more than 1 million square feet. Brand Properties said Phase One of the development, which could break ground later this year, could include a grocery store, restaurants, office space, 250 hotel rooms and apartments. Phase One is expected to be completed in 18 months. A second phase would develop properties north of the ballpark.

The city is also considering a deal with Brand Properties to build two parking decks at the site.
