NAMPA, Idaho (AP) - Classes have not been cancelled after about 150 middle school students stayed home sick and dozens more went home sick throughout the day.

KBOI-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1zJjgH2 ) that the students who stayed home Thursday attended Lone Star Middle School in Nampa.

Southwest District Health Staff Epidemiologist Raemi Nolevanko says the students may have contracted the highly contagious norovirus, which causes an illness sometimes called the stomach flu.

Health officials urge parents to keep sick kids at home for up to 24 hours after symptoms disappear to prevent the illness’ spread.

Nampa School District says all of its schools were cleaned and disinfected Thursday night and classes are not cancelled.

The district contacted parents about the illness around 4 p.m. Thursday.
