HARVEY, La. (AP) - A Terrytown man is accused of leaving his 3-month-old child inside a hot car while he shopped.

Multiple news sources report the infant was treated and released to a relative after the child’s temperature was measured at 101 degrees by an EMT Tuesday afternoon. Officers say 31-year-old Brian Bibbins left his child in the car for about 40 minutes while shopping at a Best Buy.

Authorities say a Jefferson Parish sheriff’s office deputy responded to a call and removed the child from the car and arrested Bibbins when he came out.

Deputies say the temperature of the vehicle later that afternoon was 113 degrees.

Bibbins is scheduled for a hearing Friday and has not been appointed a lawyer. He will be held in jail for at least 5 days.
