LAKE PLACID, N.Y. (AP) - A 43-year-old upstate New York man is accused of having sex with a 12-year-old boy he met online.

State police say Scott Waller was charged Wednesday with sexual abuse, endangering the welfare of a child and related offenses.

Authorities say the Lake Placid man met the boy in February after having sexually explicit conversations with him on a social media app. Police say Waller took the boy to his home, gave him alcohol and had sex with him.

Authorities say the boy was reported missing from his St. Lawrence County home. The boy’s friends and classmates told police he met someone online and said he planned to run away.

Waller was arraigned and released on his own recognizance.

It’s unclear if he had an attorney who could comment.
