RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Tuition and mandatory fees will rise by about 3 percent next academic year at Virginia Commonwealth University.

The action Friday by VCU’s board of visitors increases the cost of attending the urban Richmond campus to $12,772. That’s a $374 increase for an undergraduate taking 15 credits.

The average cost for a new Virginia undergraduate student living in on-campus housing with a meal plan will be $22,358, which reflects an increase.

For out-of-state undergraduates, tuition and mandatory fees were set at $31,463. The 3.3 percent increase totals just over $1,000.

The average cost for a new out-of-state undergraduate student living in on-campus housing with a meal plan will be $41,049.

The board also approved other increases, including those for advanced degrees and parking rates.
