CENTENNIAL, Colo. (AP) - A suburban Denver woman accused of beating a man to death with a baseball bat because she suspected him of sexually molesting a child has been sentenced to 38 years in prison.

The Arapahoe County District Attorney’s Office says 32-year-old Forsythia Owen, of Englewood, was sentenced Friday. She was convicted of second-degree murder, first-degree assault and tampering with evidence in the September 2013 death of 42-year-old Denzel Rainey.

Englewood police say Owen told them she killed Rainey as he was sleeping in an alley because a child accused the man of sexually abusing her. Rainey was found with lacerations to his head, a skull fracture and several broken bones. He died of his injuries at a hospital.

Prosecutors say Owen’s molestation claims against Rainey were unfounded.
