ATLANTA (AP) - The two car theft suspects shot by an off-duty Atlanta police officer in a busy intersection are juveniles.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports (https://on-ajc.com/1F5FXpr ) the two, both 16 years old, were in a vehicle Thursday that had been reported stolen in Midtown earlier that day. They were both in stable condition Thursday night at Grady Memorial Hospital.

Department spokesman Greg Lyon says an off-duty officer was directing traffic at an intersection in Atlanta’s Buckhead neighborhood when a marked police car pulled up near the stolen vehicle.

Lyon says the occupants of the stolen vehicle drove toward the off-duty officer, who fired shots and wounded both of the car’s passengers.

Police have not said what charges the pair will face. The suspects have not been identified because they are juveniles.
