PHOENIX (AP) - Three people have been hurt following a collision between a Phoenix light rail car and a commercial truck.

Phoenix police say the accident happened around 11:30 a.m. Saturday in the city’s midtown area at Central and Clarendon avenues.

Sgt. Jonathan Howard says both vehicles were traveling southbound on Central when the truck attempted a left turn directly in front of the train. The train derailed while the box truck overturned.

Howard says the two people inside the truck and a light rail passenger were all taken to hospitals. But all three have injuries that are not non-life-threatening.

Valley Metro, which operates the light rail system, has dispatched buses to shuttle riders around the closed-off area.

Howard says the area will be closed for several more hours as the investigation continues.
