ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - An Albuquerque man who allegedly cut his neighbor with a piece of glass and then bit a police officer is in custody.

Police spokesman Daren DeAguero says the suspect is accused of jumping into his neighbor’s backyard Friday around 6 p.m. and initiating an altercation.

DeAguero says the suspect cut his neighbor with glass and then jumped the fence to return to his own home.

According to police, the suspect lunged at responding officers who showed up at his door and then barricaded himself inside.

A SWAT unit was called in.

DeAguero says the suspect allegedly bit one of the officers in the hand as he was being taken into custody. The officer has since been treated for his wounds.

The neighbor’s injuries were not life-threatening.
