BINGHAMPTON, N.Y. (AP) - Officials say a brush fire tore through 17 acres of Red Brook State Forest this week in Chenango County.

The Press & Sun Bulletin reports (https://press.sn/1cjKeu6 ) that the blaze broke out Thursday and more than 15 departments from Chenango and Cortland counties responded.

Matthew Beckwith, fire coordinator for the Chenango County Bureau of Fire, tells the newspaper at least two firefighters were treated for minor injuries. No other injuries were reported.

He says flames were 20 feet high and jumped from treetop to treetop. It took about three hours to extinguish.

The cause was unknown. State forest rangers are investigating.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation says Red Brook State Forest comprises 601 acres of land used for camping, fishing and hiking. There are no trails.
