CASPER, Wyo. (AP) - Prosecutors are dropping a charge that was filed after a Casper City Hall altercation involving the wife of the city manager and a resident.

Authorities had charged Sam Wiseman with unlawful contact after Cindy Patterson accused him of yelling at and hitting her last Tuesday night.

Natrona County Assistant District Attorney Mike Schafer did not say why prosecutors decided to drop the charge.

And Wiseman declined to speak about the events that took place Tuesday night during a city council meeting. But he says dismissal of the charge shows that the justice system works and he believes the whole issue is part of a general effort to stifle free speech.
