PASCAGOULA, Miss. (AP) - The former coach of the Moss Point High School boys’ basketball team has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for having sex with a student.

WLOX-TV in Biloxi reports (https://bit.ly/1P6vssl ) that Micoe Cotton was sentenced Friday in Jackson County Circuit Court. He had pleaded guilty in March to one count of exploitation of a child and two counts of sexual battery in a plea agreement with the government.

Court records show the sexual abuse occurred on the Moss Point High School campus while the student was in ninth grade, and then again when she was in 11th grade. Investigators say Cotton filmed the abuse on his cellphone.

Prosecutors say the victim in the case was 15 at the time of the first sexual encounter with Cotton.
