MERIDEN, Conn. (AP) - Two firefighters and one resident have been taken to the hospital with minor injuries after flames destroyed a condominium building in Meriden.

The fire started around noon Saturday in Building 11 of the Crown Village complex near the corner of Crown Street and Hall Avenue. Flames could be seen through the roof smoke was visible from Interstate 691.

The Record-Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1FW126p) Meriden Fire Marshal Steve Trella said at least one man had minor injuries after he jumped from a second-story window to escape a smoke-filled hallway. Deputy Fire Chief Ryan Dunn said arriving firefighters also saw some people jumping out from a balcony.

About 60 firefighters from nearby Berlin and Wallingford assisted the Meriden department. The building was destroyed. Firefighters kept the flames from spreading to other buildings and woods.
