ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. (AP) - A former Vermont legislator has been charged with domestic assault.

Forty-seven-year-old Robert South is accused of assaulting a family member at a home in St. Johnsbury. He was arrested on Friday.

South served as a Democrat in the Vermont House of Representatives for six years. He was not re-elected in November.

South could not be reached for comment. It was not immediately known if he has a lawyer.
