FINDLAY, Ohio (AP) - A northwest Ohio college has sued the landscaping company involved in an accidental spraying that killed most of its grass last spring.

The University of Findlay recently filed a lawsuit in Hancock Common Pleas Court. The university says in a statement that the lawsuit is “an unfortunate but necessary step.”

The Courier of Findlay reports (https://bit.ly/1Quzb09 ) that the university said the goal of the suit is to obtain money from the landscaping firm’s insurance company to cover all its costs.

The lawsuit states that a USA Lawn & Landscaping employee applied herbicide that killed both weeds and grass, causing grass to die on up to 54 acres.

An attorney for the company said his client “is thrilled to be part of the University of Findlay community,” but wouldn’t comment further.
