EMPIRE, Ala. (AP) - DNA tests have confirmed the identity of the body found in a burned pickup truck behind a former Walker County school.

The Jasper Mountain Eagle reports (https://bit.ly/1F5XjlP ) the remains belong to 32-year-old Eric Cates, who lived in the Arkadelphia area. Cates’ body was found inside a burning truck by hunters on March 21 behind an old Empire school. His dog was also found in the vehicle.

Walker County Sheriff Jim Underwood says forensic tests to determine Cates’ cause of death will take time.

Underwood had hoped a necropsy would shed more clues on the incident, but he said results released on Friday were inconclusive.
