HILO, Hawaii (AP) - The state Department of Public Safety says an inmate is missing from a Big Island prison’s reintegration program.

The department says Lyndal Gilliland was discovered missing from Hale Nani at a 10 p.m. headcount on Friday. Staff searched for him and called police.

The 22-year-old was serving time for drug convictions.

Hale Nani is associated with the Hawaii Community Correctional Center. It offers reintegration services and a work release program for inmates who will be released on the Big Island.

Gilliland was to have completed his sentence in December. The department says he will be charged with escape.

Gilliland is 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighs 130 pounds. He has brown hair and hazel eyes.
