CONSTANTIA, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say an Oswego County sheriff’s deputy has fatally shot a man who was armed and threatening the officer.

WSYR-TV (https://bit.ly/1chXSOd ) reports that the deputy was responding to a complaint Friday in Constantia in central New York when he encountered the 58-year-old man on a dead-end road in a remote area.

Sheriff Reuel Todd says authorities don’t believe the public was threatened.

State police were called to assist in the investigation. The names of the deputy and the man were not released.

The county coroner is to conduct an autopsy.

For several hours Friday evening, the road at the intersection with County Route 23 was closed.
