EDDYVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A Kentucky State Police trooper shot and wounded a man who pointed a gun at officers during a search warrant visit in western Kentucky.

Troopers went to a home in Eddyville Saturday morning, and after knocking a man came to the door and pointed a handgun at the officers.

State police say in a release that the man, 51-year-old John C. Smith, refused to drop the weapon and was shot by a trooper in the abdomen. No police were hurt.

Police found 10 ounces of methamphetamine, several guns and cash in the home.

Smith and another person in the home, 41-year-old Patricia Kilgore, were charged with several drug-related offenses. Kilgore was taken to jail in Caldwell County.

Smith was taken to a Paducah hospital and is recovering from the bullet wound.
