PHOENIX (AP) - Police say a bicyclist is in critical condition after he was run over by a bus at a Phoenix intersection.

Police spokesman James Holmes says the incident happened around 7:30 p.m. Saturday on 35th Avenue at Thomas Road.

According to officers, a 53-year-old man riding southbound attempted to cross the street on his bicycle just as a bus in the southbound curb lane was making a right turn.

The bus collided with the bicycle, knocking it over.

Police say the man fell and was rolled over by the right side of the bus, just behind the right front tire.

The bicyclist was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries and was listed in critical condition Sunday.

Holmes says there is no evidence of impairment and no charges are pending.
