TWIN FALLS, Idaho (AP) - Officials in south-central Idaho say emergency crews were forced to rappel into the Snake River Canyon to recover a body after a vehicle plummeted over the canyon rim.

Twin Falls spokesman Joshua Palmer said that the vehicle landed in a rocky area near the bottom of the canyon around 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

Palmer confirmed that at least one person was dead, but it was still unclear as of Thursday afternoon if there was only one person in the vehicle.

Officials have requested surveillance video footage of the parking lot where the car was last seen before it went into the canyon.

Palmer said the cause of the crash is still under investigation.
