EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) - A $1 million gift to Michigan State University will establish an athletics endowment, help upgrade the Breslin Center and assist in completing fundraising for the Spartan Stadium north end zone expansion.

The donation announced Thursday by the East Lansing school is from alumnus William Deary and his wife, Cherilyn.

The gift supports “Empower Extraordinary, the Campaign for Michigan State University.” The donation, made through the fundraising arm of the athletics department, is the 20th gift of at least $1 million to MSU Athletics since the start of the campaign in July 2011.

The Dearys founded Great Lakes Caring, a provider of home health and hospice services.

Through Empower Extraordinary, MSU Athletics seeks to raise $262 million to support efforts including new facilities and an increased endowment.
