SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - Vice President Joe Biden is making sure a White House initiative to prevent campus sexual violence reaches his alma mater, Syracuse University.

Biden spoke on campus Thursday as part of a national week of action surrounding the “It’s On Us” campaign, which encourages college students to intervene to prevent assaults.

At times shouting, Biden said men on campuses, as well as administrators, must take more responsibility in creating an environment where sexual assault is unacceptable and where it’s understood that sex without consent is rape.

Biden says more than 250,000 people have taken the “Its On Us” pledge, and that more than 300 campuses have held more than 1,000 events since the campaign started last year.

Biden is a 1968 graduate of the Syracuse University College of Law.
