WORLAND, Wyo. (AP) - Authorities have identified the boy who was struck and killed by a freight train in Thermopolis.

The Northern Wyoming Daily News reports (https://bit.ly/1lkJRnY ) that 12-year-old Gavin Jacobson had been listening to music through earphones and apparently didn’t hear the train coming when he was hit Sunday. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the train crew had sounded the train’s horn and engaged the train’s brakes when they spotted the boy, but were unable to stop the train.

The incident is still under investigation.
