COAL CITY, Ill. (AP) - A Coal City man found a flag inside a glass case and service badges after a summer tornado and is searching for the owner.

The (Joliet) Herald-News reports (https://bit.ly/1WOYGzW ) that Bob Conlinson says he found the items in his backyard after the June 22 tornado. He gave the flag and badges to the VFW post in nearby Wilmington with the hopes that the owner can be located. One of the badges has the name “Harper” embroidered on it.

Grundy County Veterans Assistance Commission Superintendent Ken Buck says there are more than 3,000 veterans in the county. He says the items could belong to the family of a deceased veteran.

The Coal City tornado was an EF-3 with wind speeds up to 160 mph. It damaged more than 800 properties.
