JAMESTOWN, N.D. (AP) - North Dakota’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation will be looking into false claims of misuse of government property against Stutsman County’s sheriff.

Sheriff Chad Kaiser tells KQDJ that the state investigation is in its early stages.

A false claim was made that Sheriff Kaiser’s son and a sheriff’s deputy were using a personal watercraft owned by the county. The claims were disputed once it was found that the county does not own a personal watercraft, and the one in question actually belonged to a resident in Mandan.

Kaiser says that there are no known suspects he does not know how long the investigation will take.

He says the BCI agreed to investigate in an effort for transparency.
