TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - A former northern New Jersey police officer has pleaded guilty to stealing more than $321,000 in disability payments while working as a full-time officer in Georgia.

John Robert Marion, of Valdosta, Georgia, pleaded guilty Thursday to a charge of third-degree theft by deception. The state will recommend that he be sentenced to up to 364 days in county jail and pay full restitution as part of the plea agreement.

The attorney general’s office says Marion was a police officer in Waldwick from 1998 to 2008. He retired on a disability pension after claiming medical and stress-related conditions.

He has collected $3,614 per month, while also working as a law enforcement officer in the Clinch, Echols and Lowndes counties sheriff’s offices in Georgia.

He works for the Lowndes County Sherriff’s Office.
