DETROIT (AP) - A 31-year-old man has been killed after his car was hit by another vehicle that was fleeing police on Detroit’s west side.

The victim’s Lincoln was hit Thursday morning by a Dodge Charger that police say traveled into Dearborn and then back into Detroit before the crash.

Police say the chase started with an attempted traffic stop and had been called off before the crash because of the Charger’s speed and the 27-year-old operator’s erratic driving.

The Charger’s driver and a 16-year-old female passenger were hurt in the crash.

Police Chief James Craig says a weapons parole violation warrant was issued in July for the Charger’s driver. He also is wearing a tether.

Craig says his office is trying to determine why he had not been arrested on the warrant.
