SANTA MONICA, Calif. (AP) - Santa Monica has rolled out a bicycle sharing program offering 500 bikes for rent from dozens of locations in the beachside city.

Users can pick up a bright green bike from a kiosk, hop on, and then leave it near their destination for someone else to use.

The Breeze Bikeshare system will provide 75 kiosks in Santa Monica and 4 kiosks in neighboring Venice.

The Los Angeles Times says (https://lat.ms/1SLCLns) the program is designed for short, point-to-point trips rather than an all-day rental.

Until Dec. 31, a yearlong membership, which includes one hour of riding time per day, will cost $99.

Santa Monica also offers monthly memberships for $20, a student pass for $47 per term and a pay-as-you-go-option, which costs $1 for every 10 minutes.
