MIDWEST CITY, Okla. (AP) - Republican state Rep. Charlie Joyner of Midwest City says he will not seek re-election next year.

Joyner said in a statement Thursday that he wants to spend more time with his wife and family. He will serve out the remainder of his term that includes the upcoming legislative session.

Joyner is a former Midwest City fire chief and was twice elected to the City Council in Midwest City.

He was elected to the state House in 2006 and has been re-elected four times since. He currently is chairman of the House Transportation Committee and says he tried to help modernize transportation in Oklahoma.
