SEATTLE (AP) - The University of Washington’s new president, Ana Mari Cauce, will be making $910,000 in total compensation, a few thousand more than WSU’s Elson Floyd was paid in total compensation before he died earlier this year.

That will likely put Cauce (COW-say) into the Top 10 of public university presidential salaries, according to recent data from the Chronicle of Higher Education.

The University of Washington Board of Regents approved a five-year contract for the new president on Thursday. Her annual salary will be $697,500. She will also receive $150,000 each year in deferred compensation, plus a $12,000 annual car allowance and $50,500 for her retirement account.

Her predecessor, Michael Young, who now earns more than $1 million at Texas A&M;, earned $854,000 in total compensation at the University of Washington. His last raise at UW was $50,000 in October 2014 so if he had stayed, it’s likely he would have been paid a comparable amount this year.

When she signed her contract, Cauce announced she will donate $500,000 to the university over the five years of her contract for scholarships and other programs to help students.
