BECKLEY, W.Va. (AP) - A Beckley pain clinic doctor has been charged after his medical offices were raided by federal and state authorities.

Dr. Jose J. Gordinho made an initial appearance Thursday in U.S. Magistrate Court in Beckley. A criminal complaint charges him with violating U.S. codes regarding the unlawful distribution of controlled substances.

Media outlets report that earlier that day, West Virginia State Police and FBI agents raided Gordinho’s pain clinic.

According to court records, the criminal complaint was based on information from a confidential informant who was a former co-worker of Gordinho’s.

The informant told investigators that between February and September, Gordinho routinely distributed controlled substances from his practice that weren’t for legitimate medical purposes.

Gordinho’s attorney, Timothy Koontz of Williamson, didn’t immediately return a telephone message seeking comment.
