VAN METER, Iowa (AP) - Workers will soon begin removing invasive plants and brush in two areas of Badger Creek State Recreation Area south of Van Meter.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says the work by contractors is part of a multiyear project to convert the areas to native prairie.

A bulldozer will remove and pile about 13 acres of bush honeysuckle in 10 locations in the two areas, which are near Badger Creek Lake.

The DNR says it has placed signs in the area that urge deer hunters to remove tree stands from the construction zones.
