MOENCHENGLADBACH, Germany (AP) - Borussia Moenchengladbach has given interim coach Andre Schubert the job on a permanent basis following his impressive work.

The Bundesliga club says the 44-year-old Schubert, who took over on Sept. 21, has signed a deal to June 2017.

The former under-23 coach inherited a misfiring side low on confidence and last in the Bundesliga when his predecessor Lucien Favre quit after starting the season with five straight losses. Schubert then matched a Bundesliga record by starting with six straight wins.

‘Gladbach also won in the German Cup and produced encouraging performances in the Champions League.

‘Gladbach sports director Max Eberl says “we know our team is in good hands with him and that’s why we decided to give him a contract as head coach.”
