MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - An anonymous donor has given $40 million to Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare and the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.

Officials at Methodist Le Bonheur say it’s the largest single donation in the health care system’s nearly 100-year history.

Methodist Le Bonheur CEO Gary Shorb says the gift will help transform the Transplant Institute as well as all of the health care system.

Officials plan to use the gift for a new transplant facility to provide state-of-the-art and easily accessible accommodations throughout the transplant process. Also planned is pioneering research in conjunction with UT Health Science Center.
