PHOENIX (AP) - A man has been arrested for allegedly firing shots at three Phoenix police officers.

Police say nobody was injured early Friday.

They say 33-year-old Larry Lopez is being booked into jail on suspicion of three counts of aggravated assault and misconduct with weapons as a prohibited possessor.

Police say Lopez claimed he shot at the officers because he didn’t want to go back to jail and has an outstanding warrant for a parole violation out of California.

Police responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle inside a parking garage about 4 a.m.

After the first officer arrived, Lopez allegedly fired multiple times through his windshield with at least two bullets striking the patrol vehicle.

Two more officers arrived and exchanged shots with Lopez, who had a handgun and rifle.
