CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - The Medical University of South Carolina is opening a new cancer unit at its Ashley River Tower Hospital in Charleston.

The Hope Unit is a 42-bed oncology unit on a renovated floor at the downtown hospital that officials will dedicate on Friday with the first patients arriving on Saturday.

It consolidates cancer services on one floor, which means there are now 22 more oncology beds in the hospital. The unit includes a special area for blood and marrow transplant patients.
