PHILLIPSBURG, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say a New Jersey man choked a woman until she was unconscious and set a pile of clothes on fire inside a home.

The (Easton) Express-Times reports (https://bit.ly/1lmQhmj) 20-year-old Gavin Lepore was charged with aggravated assault and arson.

Police say Lepore argued with a woman at his Phillipsburg home around 1:45 a.m. Monday and choked her with his hands until she passed out. Investigators say he then set a bag of clothes on fire, damaging the garments and the carpet.

Authorities say he also threw a fire extinguisher through a window, ripped a closet door off its hinges, punched a hole in a kitchen cabinet and shattered a ceramic lamp.

He’s in Warren County Jail in lieu of $15,000 bail.

It’s unclear if he has an attorney.
