PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix police say a man and police officers exchanged gunfire in a hotel parking garage but that nobody was injured.

Sgt. Jonathan Howard says the shooting occurred at about 3:45 a.m. Friday as officers responded to a security guard’s 911 call about people acting suspiciously in the garage.

Howard says one of the suspects opened fire at the officers right after they arrived and were getting out of their patrol cars.

Howard says two officers returned fire but that no one was injured and that a man and a woman were taken into custody.

The incident occurred near Interstate 17 and Dunlap Avenue.

Howard said additional information was not immediately available.

This story has been corrected to reflect that police say the shooting occurred in a parking garage, not a parking lot.
